Superfoods are foods — mostly plant-based — thought to be nutritionally dense and thus good for one's health. Blueberries, nuts, kale and acai are just a few examples of foods that have garnered the "superfood" label.  Two other superfoods are moringa and hemp seeds. Both have proven high nutritional values and reported health benefits.

Some of the nutrients that certain superfoods contain include antioxidants, thought to ward off cancer; healthy fats, thought to prevent heart disease; fiber, thought to prevent diabetes and digestive problems; or phytochemicals, the chemicals in plants responsible for deep colors and smells, which can have numerous health benefits.

Moringa tree is linked to cure or prevention of about 300 human ailments today. As such, a majority of the current traditional medicines include it as part of their ingredients. Below are some of the key benefits of Moringa to human health.

    Liver protection

As mentioned earlier, Moringa contains high amounts of Vitamin C and other phytochemicals such as ferulic acid and catechin. A combination of these compounds helps to protect the liver from damages such as by radiation-induced hepatic lipid peroxidation. Conversely, these same components help to quicken the recovery process of a liver damaged by anti-tubercular drugs.

    Antibacterial protection

Moringa plant is known for its powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which makes it an excellent fit for sanitation and preservation purposes. As such, the plant’s extracts can be used to control the growth of common disease-causing microbes such as Salmonella and E. Coli.

    Contains antioxidants

Moringa contains a wealth of powerful antioxidants such as kaempferol, rutin and zeatin with a majority of them possessing high free radical scavenging capacities. For this reason, Moringa plant is regarded as one of the most effective solutions to curing damages caused by oxidative stress.

    Enhances skin health

Moringa seed oil offers powerful body hydration and detoxification effects which are vital for enhancing skin health. As such, the oil can be used to prevent formation of wrinkles, slow down premature aging, and even help to tone down the effects of pollutants on the skin. The plant has also showed positive results when used to protect skin from damages caused by heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury.

    Relieves stomach disorders

Moringa extracts have been found to be very effective in treating various stomach disorders such as ulcerative colitis, constipation, and gastritis. Indeed, Moringa is widely used as a herbal alternative to conventional antacids and antihistamines. The plant’s antibacterial and antibiotic properties also help to inhibit the growth of harmful pathogens known to trigger conditions such as diarrhea.

    Promote hair growth

Moringa seed oil has been used for several thousand years to promote hair growth. The oil is highly effective when used to purify and cleanse human hair. It also protects hair from environmental damages such as those propagated by ultraviolet radiation. Moringa seed oil can also strengthen the hair roots and enhance the health of the scalp.

    Hemp Seeds Are Incredibly Nutritious

Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats and essential fatty acids. They are also a great protein source and contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.

Hemp Seeds May Reduce the Risk of Heart Disease

Hemp seeds are a great source of arginine and gamma-linolenic acid, which have been linked with a reduced risk of heart disease.

Hemp Seeds and Oil may benefit skin

Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats. They have a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which may benefit skin diseases. In some cases, this may provide relief from eczema and its uncomfortable symptoms.

Hemp Seeds Are a Great Source of Plant-Based Protein

About 25% of the calories in hemp seeds come from protein. Hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids, making them a complete protein source.

Hemp Seeds May Reduce Symptoms of PMS and Menopause

Hemp seeds may reduce symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and may also positively affect symptoms of menopause.

Whole Hemp Seeds May Aid Digestion

Whole hemp seeds contain high amounts of fiber, both soluble and insoluble, which benefits digestive health. De-hulled hemp seeds have had the fiber-rich shell removed, and therefore contain very little fiber.
